Environmental Conservation
What Is Environmental Conservation?
Environmental conservation is an extremely diverse field that includes all careers that focus on the conservation of the Earth's renewable resources.
The Earth’s renewable resources include air, plants, soil, water, and wildlife. Conservation professionals work to preserve, protect, and restore clean air, clean water, healthy soils, and biodiversity locally and globally through sound, scientific research, and management. This includes maintaining the diversity of species, genes, and ecosystems.
Environmental conservation careers are among those projected to experience considerable growth in the coming decades. The Bristol County Agricultural High School (BCAHS) Environmental Conservation Department programs provide a broad introduction to various environmental conservation fields. Courses are delivered by instructors with professional experience in conservation and research.
We will spend some of our time in a traditional classroom, in the labs, in our natural history museum, and outdoors. You must be prepared to go outdoors every day but we will not be outdoors every day. Unexpected events occur. We may venture outdoors unexpectedly. We may venture outdoors in inclement weather. These are the realities of most environmental conservation careers.
The Environmental Conservation Department currently offers two programs of study: Natural Resources Management (NRM) and Environmental Engineering (EE). While some overlap between programs exists, each offers unique courses, learning opportunities, and career paths. Learn more about these programs at the links below.
